New YEAR 2025

JOIN us for a winter Yoga - Meditation Retreat - January 25, 26, with Friday night 24th as optional add-on. Overnight accommodations available at the North Hero House, or on your own. Cost for the Retreat days is $150. Participants limit is 18. Welcome to a winter celebration and rekindling of our spirit at GreenTARA Space in North Hero, Vermont. GreenTARA is a light-filled 240-year old building with Main Hall and Lower Level offering gathering space for community functions. Access into and within the building includes stairs; there is a steep non-ADA compliant ramp to the Main Hall.

Slow to the world and its political overdrive to come back to yourself in this deep winter yoga & meditation retreat. You will be heart-fully guided in practices of mindful yoga, joyful chanting, and sitting & walking meditation in the warmth of the Gallery and Lake Champlain’s winter landscape. Friday evening will include Yoga nidra meditation and dinner at the North Hero House for those participating the first night. Saturday we will be joined by everyone at 9am for a full day of practice and lunch together. We will have a group dinner for those staying overnight at the North Hero House. Sunday will begin again quietly at 9am and include yoga, Qigong, and lunch, with a closing and winter walk to rekindle our spirits for the times we are in. Let’s listen to ourselves, one another, and the natural world.

CURRENT YEAR 2024

Empty or full, the GreenTARA building is a magical place and host to special events, private parties, and more: ongoing Sundays of Moodra Yoga with Majken Tranby, and the upcoming North Hero Holiday weekend Dec. 6-8, plus three Saturdays Dec. 7, 14, & 21 when the Gallery is transformed into festivities for the Artisan Fair with 7-8 participating artists.

CAFÉxchange - June 2023

CAFÉxchange is a newly formed nonprofit created as a people-to-people cultural exchange project by a team of The Caroline Fund, Burlington, VT; Vermont Institute of Community and International Involvement – VICII; Cuban American Friendship Society in Burlington, Vermont – CAFS; and Friends of GreenTARA Space, Inc., gallery and community venue in North Hero, Vermont.  In their combined travels to Cuba, the team members were inspired to invite a small group of Cuban photographers to visit Vermont for this 2023 cultural exchange.

The four selected photographers have different voices as artists and collectively bring a broad representation of the skills and talent Cuba has to offer to our little corner of the world.  For example, Alfredo Sarabia Fajardo is one of the leading young photographers in Cuba today.  He has taught and exhibited internationally. His work brings a critical voice to the use of photography today. Tomás Inda Barrera, on the other hand, brings long-standing knowledge of the field from both his teaching and running a photography school to his large-scale commercial work.  Inda’s images of the sea are monumental.  Yadira Ismael Sotomayor, is a younger and amazingly talented voice.  Yadira’s rural images are powerful portraits that will be especially appreciated in this agricultural region of ours.  Additionally her technical skills are superior and the breadth of her voice is impressive.  Nadhiesda Inda Gonzalez, is a world renown photographer that we have the privilege to include in this invitation because as it turns out she is Inda’s daughter. She brings a fourth dimension to the exhibition with her high-end studio compositions from her home in Argentina.

We look forward to the influence these four photographers can have on the work of local artists here in Vermont.  We have set up a week-long program in which they will share their work in a conference setting, i.e., on a large screen, at Main Street Landing, Burlington, VT, with invited guests such as our former mayor, and Congressional delegates; and in two galleries – The Darkroom Gallery, Essex, VT and the other, less formal, with high school students in the Pickering Room, Fletcher Free Library, Burlington, VT. The events are planned for June 7 through June 15, 2023.
