Water Sacred Water

Water and Earth. We live in a time of limbo between the concrete and the ephemeral, not knowing our future nor our collective past!

Please enjoy these photos of the Quarry and visit Hannah’s website for images of the dancers and the whole story.

“We drive by this quarry many times a year. It is so spectacular. In all our wildest dreams, we never thought we would see a dance performance there. This project has truly changed how we see this place.”

ART KIT boxes for 12 & up!

The ART KIT is created by GreenTARA Space “Education and Outreach Activities” for children aged 12 years and up, in the Champlain Islands region. These high quality items were donated by Jerry’s Artarama and Friends of GreenTARA, Inc.  The boxes were donated by Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel and painted by Carolyn Zuaro... who was instrumental in gathering all the materials and putting the boxes together — a total value approx. $50.  The Art Kit is free to North Hero families.  Any donation should be given to the Town Library. You may get your Art Kit from Caroline Korejko at the Town Library.

Also check out our “Art for Kids” tab on this website for art activity ideas and “Art & Nature” Projects further inspiration. The biggest secret to making art is allowing yourself to make mistakes and to have fun!  If you have any questions about the Art Kits or the Art & Nature Activities, please email Carolyn Zuaro at czuaro@gmail.com or contact us thru greentaraspace@gmail.com. Enjoy!

Water, Sacred Water

Water, Sacred Water with work by artist Janet Fredericks and poet Guy Jean OPENS Saturday June 27 and runs thru Sunday August 23, 2020. This show highlights their exploration on the consciousness of water in concert with the discoveries of Masaru Emoto. The artists are not anthropomorphizing water, but rather interpreting waters own nature thru pattern and sound. The water studies occurred in two streams of water: the New Haven, a mountainous river torrent, and the ruisseau de la Brasserie, an urban stream in Gatineau, Québec. Their collaboration is collected into a book entitled “Et l’eau répondit…” 2006.

More on... Lion Roar: Energetic Healing and Flowing Compassion

The Lion Pose in yoga is called Simhasana; simha meaning lion.  This yogic asana or exercise is the so-called Lion Pose because of the power that is released from your core when you do it.  The asana can release tension in the throat and stimulate the body.  When you practice this pose, you will roar with a forceful exhalation, a “ha”, of air that should come freely from the contracting your abdominal area.  It is about releasing anxiety and fear through breath.  According to traditional texts Simhasana destroys disease and facilitates the three majors bandhas—Mula (pelvic floor) Jalandhara (abdominals), and Uddiyana (throat area).

The first of 2020 art exhibition and community events at GreenTARA Space take on this sense of Energetic Healing by showing work from three artists and creating a celebration of Flowing Compassion through the Memorial Day Weekend—this is a mix of Tara Circle Dance, access to the film Precious Guru, and a Mandala Painting Workshop.   And the three participating artists are: Janice Walrafen with her Hidden Masks, work-in-clay derived from her seven-day walking fast in the desert; Diane Gayer with Ancestor Voices, a set of weavings dedicated to the Five Elements; and Melissa Forbes with her watercolour Yantra Paintings.

Collectively, and we are calling this the Lion Roar.  However, in direct response to COVID-19 pandemic we are making several changes in how we socialize, how we present artists’ work, and how we offer our community programs.  The Gallery will be closed to visitors (except by appointment), but the lion is a social animal after all.  And we know the lion’s roar can be heard across great wide distances, so we are hoping that our efforts to offer events via Zoom, FB, vimeo, and the GreenTARA website will reach you too.

Additionally, some of the programs are a long-overdue celebration of Tara, the Tibetan Goddess of Compassion, and Green Tara being the Gallery namesake.  To this end we have Janice Walrafen leading a special Tara Circle Dance offering.  She is joined by Alexis Smith in the Gallery but you can join in on Dance from the security of your own safe space through Zoom.  Please see the attached fliers and the website for details, including the Zoom access codes.

Lion Roar : Energetic Healing and Flowing Compassion

Lion Roar : Energetic Healing and Flowing Compassion will open ONLINE Monday May 18 and run thru Monday June 22, 2020. The focus of this early summer show is both prayerful as we come out of the worst of the Corona Virus pandemic and wild as we reclaim our energy and hope. Apparently under the right conditions the lion roar can be heard for miles across the landscape and is a form of communication - in light of this the roar we are projecting from the Gallery is one of Energetic Healing and Flowing Compassion.

Our GreenTARA festival events will be on Saturday May 23, please check in for coming details. Events to look forward to include a circle dance led by Janice Walrafen to express the 21 Qualities of Tara’s enlightened activities (and as created by Prema Desara, founder of Tara Dhatu and co-creator of the Tara Dances); a Mandala workshop; and a film.

Meanwhile we are highlighting 3 artists: Janice Walrafen (the example of her tile work below is from the series Grief and Praise that she developed after her 7-day walk-about fast in 2012), Suki Ciappara with her needle-felted fiber art shields, and Diane Gayer’s weavings based on the Five Elements.
