Seasonal Changes

August brings us a bounty of seasonal changes from herbaceous flowers and herbs to harrowing heat. The changes at the Gallery include installation of a heat pump system by Vermont Energy to see if we can cool down the building in these 90+ degree days. I’ve never lived with AC so this is a learning curve and an acknowledgement of how climate change is affecting our habits and investments. Not sure it’s the right solution but here we are.

Of course on a more grounded level the sunflowers, zinnias, bee balm and mounds of herbs are feeding the pollinators. We’ve found many new kinds of caterpillars this year… and the monarchs are now hatching from their chrysalises. Look herbal tea mixes in the fall, but before then we have the TRANSMIGRATION SHOW up thru Sunday August 29 with Jessica Scriver and Mary Admasian.

We're in THE ISLANDER!

Such cool coverage in The Islander, our locally-owned newspaper! Thank you Islander Correspondent Michael Frett. The current show Transmigration is up through Sunday August 29. After that comes…. artist and muralist Carole d’Inverno who will be collecting and harvesting all your local stories for a community history project and mural. Please put September 10, 11, 12 and Oct. 1, 2, 3 on your calendars.

VTIFF "Never Gonna Snow Again"

This film is both mesmerizingly beautiful and unsettling. Friends of GreenTARA is helping support the Vermont Film Festival by sponsoring this film, but there are many other choices as well. We happened to fall in love with this one.

Never Gonna Snow Again

From Thursday, July 1st, 2021 to Wednesday, August 18th, 2021

Director: Malgoska Szumowska & Michael Englert | Polish/Russian w/ subtitles | 113 mins | Cost $12.00

On a gray, foggy morning outside a large Polish city, a masseur from the East named Zhenia (Alec Utgoff, Stranger Things) enters the lives of the wealthy residents of a gated community. With his hypnotic presence and quasi-magical abilities, he is able to get a residence permit and starts plying his trade. The well-to-do residents in their cookie-cutter suburban homes seemingly have it all, but they all suffer from an inner sadness, some unexplained longing. The attractive and mysterious newcomer’s hands heal, and Zhenia’s eyes seem to penetrate their souls. To them, his Russian accent sounds like a song from the past, a memory of simpler times. The latest from writer/director Malgorzata Szumowska (Elles, In the Name of) and her longtime collaborator Michal Englert is an unclassifiable meditation on class, immigration, and global warming shot through with Lynchian touches of the otherworldly and moments of sober beauty and unexpected humor.

Transmigration: the passage of cells, populations, and spirit

TRANSMIGRATION : This passage is a condition of change and evolution that we’ve collectively tried to stabilize and control through our engineered constructions and our neo-colonialist/post-industrial economic ways and which works against the natural conditions of movement and migration through cells, populations, and soul. Still, our markings and geographies migrate through life at the cellular, geographic, and spiritual levels of our own becoming.

GreenTARA Gallery is happy to announce this second of the 2021 art shows with Vermont Artists: Jessica Scriver - A New Geography and Mary Admasian - Marked.

The Gallery theme of Transition, Transmigration, Transmission, and Transcendence will permeate the four curated art shows of the year.

Transmigration runs Friday July 9, 2021 thru Sunday August 29, 2021. Gallery is OPEN Fri, Sat, Sun 12noon - 6pm during Kraemer & Kin’s hours of operation.

Please join us for an Art Reception in July.... Date to be announced!

Papermaking Workshop with John LaFalce

John LaFalce of the original “peacepaperproject” and “greendoorstudio” off of Pine Street and who now lives and works in Saranac Lake…. took the day off to come back to Burlington and workshop with youth and their mentors at King Street. The student-made paper sheets that include ginger and onion skin fibers are still drying, but soon to become art! Friends of GreenTARA was happy to work with Spectrum and helped sponsor this workshop.

New Terrace is OPEN

Thanks to many — from the beautiful sugarledge stone terrace by Aaron and John of Champlain Landworks to the Amish-made “poly-wood” chairs bought locally and now onsite thanks to Sally’s truck — we now have this outdoor terrace as part of the Gallery and Brewery. It is dedicated to Louise, who passed away in January when we were first plotting to build out this remnant corner of the property.

Transition: Turning the Wheel, the Art of Becoming

As we turn the wheel of becoming, beauty arises. We are more than robots and automatons, more than prescribed reactions to the system of things, we are human…. and as such we enjoy life and spirit above all. As many of you know, the GreenTARA Space is located on a postage stampe of land, so this new back terrace brings additional external access to the Gallery, accommodates expanding Kraemer & Kin’s service needs, and addresses the lake and field views that define North Hero. “Louise’s Patio” It is dedicated to a longtime family friend. Join us Saturday June 26, 2021 for our Artists Celebration and Ribbon Cutting - 12 to 2pm.
