These photographs and interviews by Monica Frisell and Adam Scher were part of Carole d’ Inverno’s gallery mural project in September. Together the two are creating an evolving and living document of our country in their ongoing project “Portrait of US”. They are back on the road again, but have left this collection of photographs and interviews for us to view online or at the Town Library and GreenTARA.
TRANSCENDENCE
TRANSCENDENCE that moment of higher consciousness that comes from moving through obstacles, seeking out the light, and becoming independent of the material universe.
We live in a time of conscious of change. Things are shifting and we can feel it on three levels from the personal and community to the global. We are trying to find a path through this world, and to transcend what it before us. To help us see this world, painter Catherine Hall’s “tapestries” of fluttering textures, changing colours, and glittery gold remind us of the transitory illusions of our daily lives.
While Shelley Warren’s carved Buddhist and Hindu inspired sculptures help to focus the mind and heart as we travel through this samsaric world into Oneness.

POP-UP Romulus Craft Pottery
We have a special Pop Up exhibit of Jeanne Bisson’s tea bowls. The matched bowls and saucers are exquisite examples of her work as part of Romulus Craft team. She and her partner Ikuzi Teraki make porcelain sing. Romulus Craft is about relationships, relationships between two distinct individuals from two different cultures, between nature and time, between control and spontaneous reaction. www.romuluscraftstudio.com
These tea bowls are a sensation of lightness to the eye and weight in the hand. They are meant to slow us down in this vast changing moment of time. The bowl sets are for sale and can be seen by visiting the Video Temple, downstairs from the Main Gallery.

Seasonal Changes
August brings us a bounty of seasonal changes from herbaceous flowers and herbs to harrowing heat. The changes at the Gallery include installation of a heat pump system by Vermont Energy to see if we can cool down the building in these 90+ degree days. I’ve never lived with AC so this is a learning curve and an acknowledgement of how climate change is affecting our habits and investments. Not sure it’s the right solution but here we are.
Of course on a more grounded level the sunflowers, zinnias, bee balm and mounds of herbs are feeding the pollinators. We’ve found many new kinds of caterpillars this year… and the monarchs are now hatching from their chrysalises. Look herbal tea mixes in the fall, but before then we have the TRANSMIGRATION SHOW up thru Sunday August 29 with Jessica Scriver and Mary Admasian.
We're in THE ISLANDER!
Such cool coverage in The Islander, our locally-owned newspaper! Thank you Islander Correspondent Michael Frett. The current show Transmigration is up through Sunday August 29. After that comes…. artist and muralist Carole d’Inverno who will be collecting and harvesting all your local stories for a community history project and mural. Please put September 10, 11, 12 and Oct. 1, 2, 3 on your calendars.
VTIFF "Never Gonna Snow Again"
This film is both mesmerizingly beautiful and unsettling. Friends of GreenTARA is helping support the Vermont Film Festival by sponsoring this film, but there are many other choices as well. We happened to fall in love with this one.
Never Gonna Snow Again
From Thursday, July 1st, 2021 to Wednesday, August 18th, 2021
Director: Malgoska Szumowska & Michael Englert | Polish/Russian w/ subtitles | 113 mins | Cost $12.00
On a gray, foggy morning outside a large Polish city, a masseur from the East named Zhenia (Alec Utgoff, Stranger Things) enters the lives of the wealthy residents of a gated community. With his hypnotic presence and quasi-magical abilities, he is able to get a residence permit and starts plying his trade. The well-to-do residents in their cookie-cutter suburban homes seemingly have it all, but they all suffer from an inner sadness, some unexplained longing. The attractive and mysterious newcomer’s hands heal, and Zhenia’s eyes seem to penetrate their souls. To them, his Russian accent sounds like a song from the past, a memory of simpler times. The latest from writer/director Malgorzata Szumowska (Elles, In the Name of) and her longtime collaborator Michal Englert is an unclassifiable meditation on class, immigration, and global warming shot through with Lynchian touches of the otherworldly and moments of sober beauty and unexpected humor.
